When travelling to Las Vegas you have a lot of transportation options. You can rent a car, car rental places are available at the airport and in many hotels. You can take the bus (The Deuce), it offers service across the Strip and to the Old Downtown. You can take the Monorail, the offer service to many of the on strip hotels. You can take a Taxi, they are available in front of every hotel. And lastly, you can just walk, if you are on the Strip everything you need is in walking distance.
- I am staying off the strip, should I rent a car?
This has a lot to do with personal preference and what your plans are. If you are staying on the strip and not planning on travelling very much you will not need a car. But if you are planning on going to see the Grand Canyon and a true feel for more than just The Strip you will need a car. Las Vegas also has many public transportation options, but they do not venture very far away from the common areas.
- What are the taxis like in Las Vegas?
Taxis are available everywhere around The Strip. All of the major hotels usually have a group of taxi's waiting at the entrance to take patrons where they need to go. They offer reasonable rates and although they have a bad reputation most of them are quite knowledgeable of the city and its surroundings.
- What is long-hauling, and is it a problem in Las Vegas?
Long-hauling is when a taxi takes you the long way to force you to pay a larger fare to them. This is a common complaint when you take a taxi from the Las Vegas airport. Typically you have been long hauled if you are taken through the tunnel and on the 215 on the way to the Strip. It is illegal for a cab driver to do this and typically costs 50% more than the fastest way. To avoid a long-haul simply tell the Cab driver you will like to take Swenson to Tropicana.
- What do taxis typically charge?
The Nevada Taxi Cab Authority is the governing board over Taxis in Nevada and has set standardized rates for transportation companies to follow. You can view this web site http://taxi.state.nv.us/FaresFees.htm. Keep in mind Taxis in Las Vegas do not accept credit cards as a form of payment.
- What methods of public transportation are available?
The city of Las Vegas offers the The Deuce Bus system. The Monorail is a transportation system that travels across the strip. Many casinos also offer shuttle service to their properties around Las Vegas.
- How much does the The Deuce bus system cost?
The Deuce bus system is $2 per ride of $5 for a 24 hour pass. The bus pass is good for all Las Vegas wide CAT transportation not just The Deuce.
- Where does The Monorail go?
The Las Vegas Monorail offers service along portions of the Las Vegas Strip. Trains run from 7am to 2am on weekdays and until 3am on weekends. Stations are available along the east side of the strip from MGM Grand to Sahara. Trains typically run every 5 to 10 minutes.
- How much does The Monorail cost?
The monorail costs $5 for a single ride and $15 for a day pass.
- Is there any other ways I can get around in Las Vegas?
The Strip Trolley runs between the Stratosphere and Mandalay Bay. It runs from 9:30 am to 1:30 am. Trolleys arrive every 15 minutes and stops at every major casino along the strip. A single fair is $1.75 and a day pass is $5. The Trolley typically takes longer than the bus. Several casinos offer transpiration services, especially if they have multiple properties around Las Vegas.
